Eligibility Criteria for DAAD Scholarship

To apply for DAAD scholarship in Germany, you must fulfill the following eligibility criteria:

  • Have completed a bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree in an appropriate course at the time of application.
  • Previous academic degree is completed no more than 6 years before.
  • Grade should be at least 2nd class upper division in the degree.
  • Have at least 2 years of professional work experience.
  • Proficiency in English or German language. For English, you must have either a TOEFL score of minimum 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based, and 80 internet-based or an IELTS score of 6 bands. For German, you must have DSH 2 or TestDaF 4.
  • Must be from an eligible country. You can check your country’s eligibility in the following list.
  • Applicants from the People’s Republic of China must provide a certificate from the German Embassy’s “Akademische Prufstelle (APS).
  • Additionally, you should demonstrate your development-related motivation. After the scholarship, you are expected to take on social responsibility and to start and support change processes in your personal and professional environments.

How to Apply for DAAD Scholarship in Germany?

The application process for DAAD scholarship can be done in these steps:

  • First of all, you have to select suitable courses of your interest. You can apply for a maximum of three courses. The complete list of courses is given above.
  • Keeping in mind the deadlines of your selected courses, apply to the respective universities offering these courses.
  • You send your complete application with required documents directly to the universities. Note that you don’t send your application or documents to DAAD.
  • A selection committee will then recommend potential DAAD candidates for the scholarship.
  • If you’re among the initially selected candidates by the committee, DAAD will contact you to upload your complete application to the DAAD portal. (DAAD will provide the link to the portal through email).
  • After the selection process is finalized, the suggested candidates will be informed accordingly.

  • Completed and signed DAAD Application Form with current date.
  • Signed Curriculum Vitae (CV) using Europass Format in reverse chronological order.
  • Signed Letter of Motivation of maximum two pages expressing your academic, professional personal reasons for applying for the program.
  • Certificate(s) of Employment from your Employer(s) showing at least two years of relevant work experience after the bachelors degree up to the time of application.
  • Proof of English or German language proficiency. TOEFL or IELTS for English, DSH or TestDaF for German.
  • Copies of Higher Education Degrees and Academic Transcripts (certified translation if necessary).
  • Applicants from the People’s Republic of China must provide an APS Certificate along with their application materials.

Important: Make sure you have a copy of every application document on hand because, if you are recommended for a DAAD scholarship, you will need to upload those documents (as PDF files) to the DAAD Portal.
